Phase I Part 1:
​Learning Objectives

Module Objectives:
1. Participants will identify the essential characteristics of a learning objective.
2. When given a sample lesson objective, participants will identify the 3 components of an effective and measurable lesson objective (content, skill and context). 
​3. Participants will recognize overt and covert student learning behaviors. 
4. Participants will develop a three part learning objective containing an overt student behavior.

The objective component of a lesson frames the rest of the lesson and establishes the targeted learning outcome of the lesson. Think of it like a compass, providing direction as you plan a lesson.

Objectives should always contain an overt student activity.

The terms "overt" and "covert" sound very similar but have completely opposite meanings so it is important to not get the terms confused with each other. It helps to remember that "overt" behaviors are student behaviors that are openly visible and observable.
